EARLY RELEASE 10-6-2017

REMINDER: October 6, 2017, is early release. Please make arrangements to have your child picked up on time. If they are a bus rider, they will go home on the bus. If they are YMCA, they will go to YMCA. If they are a car rider, they will be a car rider. If there will be a change of transportation for this day, please send a note in your child's back pack OR fax a note to the front office with your child's name, teacher's name, date, change of transportation, you signature, and your contact information. 

Week of September 25, 2017

This week, we are learning ...
 
Reading: that we already know how to read! We can read environmental print. (McDonals sign, Chick-fil-A sign, rice crispy sign, and many more. 
 
Writing: start stories by gathering ideas, stretching out tricky sounds, adding more details to our stories, using "tools" in our classroom to help us become better writers!
 
HFW: see & look
 
Letters:k, c, m, r
 
Math: number 0 - 10 and different ways to identify these numbers
 
Science: how to describe an object by describing their physical properties such as color, texture, and shape using our five senses. 
 
Social Studies:about our freedom, american symbols, and the constitution. We will also be reviewing expectations number 6 (we will recognize every effort and applaud it), 7 ( we will encourage each other to do our best), 8 (we will practice virtuous living using the life principles). 
 
Activity to do at home:
 
Please send to school examples of environmental print. For example, you may cut out pictures of stop signs, exit signs, cereal box covers that your child likes and knows the name to, plastic bag box covers, and anything else you can think of. 
 
 

PICTURE DAY TOMORROW!!! FRIDAY!

Picture day is tomorrow, Friday, September 22, 2017!! The people from the picture company say to try and stay away from the color green. 

Library Day is Wednesday!!!

Tomorrow is Library Day!! Make sure your child has their library book in their backpack so that they may turn it in. Your child will get a new library book tomorrow so they can either read to you or be read to at home. I hope everyone has a wonderful evening! 

PARENT ORIENTATION

Parent Orientation will be on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 6:00 pm. I hope you can make it!

Writing: Planning a  book page by page, stretching words, making writing the best we can, and practicing story writing

Science: how to describe an object by describing their physical properties such as color, texture, and shape

Writing - what a writer looks like and sounds like during Writer's Workshop.

Social Studies - Great Expectation lessons to teach important social skills while also incorporating Juan Pablo as our guide. This week, we are beginning to look at rules and laws that are enforced in the classroom as well as authority figures who set them. 

 

Important Dates:

9/11 - 9/15 Grandparents lunch week - be sure to check in with the front office around 10:55 to check in. Lunch starts at 11.

9/13 - Library Starts - students will only check out one book each week at first Library every week on Wednesday

9/13 - THS Homecoming Parade & Community Pep Rally

9/18 - Constitution Day

9/18 - Watch D.O.G. Kickoff

This week, we will be working on ...

 

Reading - what a a reader looks like and sounds like during Reader's Workshop.

 *High Frequency Words (HFW) the & I

Writing - what a writer looks like and sounds like during Writer's Workshop.

 

Math - what a mathematician looks like during guided math time.

 

Science - what a scientists looks like and how they use their 5 sense to observe the world around them. 

 

Social Studies - Great Expectation lessons to teach important social skills while also incorporating Juan Pablo as our guide. 

 

 Consistent attendance is one of the keys to academic success. Parents can help their children succeed by ensuring their attendance, except when illness or extreme family emergencies occur. When absence and tardiness are necessary, a written note of explanation from the parent is required.
