I would like to share some information about the UIL competition that was sent to me from Mrs. French.  Thank you.  :)

Hi Parents,

Our UIL Coaching Sessions have been meeting now for a few weeks.  Coaches are share hints, tips, strategies and test taking skills with the students to prepare them for our District UIL Academic Tournament on Saturday, January 13.  (Some students are preparing at home and will meet with their event coach to take the pre-test or try out later in the season.  Your coaches will get with you on the time and day.)

Remember, coaches will be selecting three students and two alternates to represent DPES at the tournament out of those they are working with.  Coaches will communicate with you on the date, time and method of that selection.

We truly appreciate you getting your student up to school to school by 7:45 am.  Some of you have encountered drop-off problems due to other parents parking in the drop-off circle to watch their child walk up to the school.  We want to encourage parents to drive on out of the circle after dropping off so those parents behind can also drop their student off in time.  ~Thank you!

Not sure what/when/where or who your child’s coaching session is?  Click on this link to view the schedule.

We would appreciate you either contacting your student’s coach or Mrs. French if you student is unable to make their coaching session.

You can also sign up for the REMIND texts for UIL by texting @@dpesu to 81010.  This is where I will notify you of any changes to a coaching session and update you on the tournament details.  The UIL page on Mrs. French’s Edlio website is also updated frequently.

Lastly, we are working on a t-shirt design for this year’s commemorative shirt.  Details on how these can be order will come in a future email.

And, We're Back to Normal

Wow, this has been a surprising first few weeks of school.  I am glad that we are back to normal schedules and everyone is safe.
I am asking that your child bring newspapers or old magazines that we can use to decorate our INB'S.  If you have duct tape, that would be great, also.  *We will be using this tomorrow and Friday.  Thank you in advance.
Wednesday folders are coming home today with a few handouts.  There will not be conduct sheets today.
In math, we are beginning to compose and decompose numbers is a variety of ways.  In science, we are talking about safety.

STAAR Practice Problems

I found this great site that has MANY practice questions for STAAR.  It is even split up into categories.  If you let your child practice on this site, be careful because the answers are at the beginning.  Make them tell you how they got an answer every once in a while, to be sure they are actually working them out. Thank you so much for helping to prepare your child for the test!

This Week and Next Week

This week we finished up geometry and measurement and are finishing up plant structure, functions, and adaptions.
Next week, we will begin life cycles, and will  focus on frogs, ladybugs, and plants.
Next week in Math, we will begin to learn how to interpret, analyze, and represent data on graphs.

We are reviewing for the STAAR test this week.  The  Math test is next Monday, the 8th, and the Reading test is Tuesday, the 9th.  Please make every effort to have your child in school, all week, this week.  Please, also, have them wind down early Sunday night and have a good breakfast Monday morning.  Remind them how awesome they are and how awesome they will do.  The test doesn't define us; however, the state takes the scores very seriously.  So, we do want the students to perform as well as they can.  I can't believe the date is May 1st! Where has this year gone?  I truly appreciate all of you for choosing to make your child the best he/she can be.  You are a great bunch of parents!!  :)

This Week

This week, Feb.21-24th, we will continue working on geometry and the solar system.
