Ms. Tannous' Bio

My name is Mays (Mia) Tannous.  I was born in Jordan and moved to the US when I was nearly 6 years old. I come from a large family and have 2 brothers and 3 sisters. I also have 4 nephews and 2 nieces and one on the way.  I grew up in Pennsylvania and went to college at West Chester University of Pennsylvania.  I studied Elementary Education and Psychology during my time at WCU.  I then taught in my hometown for several years before moving to Austin, Texas.  I taught in Austin for 10 years mostly in 3rd grade and as a Reading Specialist at a charter school that served mainly the at risk population in East Austin.  While in Austin, I completed a masters in Reading Curriculum at the University of Texas.  I moved to Cypress to be closer to my family. I taught in Cypress Fairbanks ISD for four years as a fourth grade teacher and special education resource teacher.  To continue my life long passion of learning, I completed my Principal Certification through Region 4 in 2019.  Being a lifelong learner is the most important lesson I hope to instill in my students. My career passions in education are working with students with disabilities, dyslexia, understanding the needs of all students, leadership, and equity for all students. Some of my personal passions are church, NFL football, traveling, exploring parks, and hiking.
