Home/Library News

Hi everyone! My name is Mandy Watson, and I am your child's librarian at Decker Prairie Elementary. This will be my 14th year of teaching and my 8th year as librarian. I look forward to seeing your child come each week to the library to check out his or her books, to hear me teach a lesson, and to participate in library activities such as read alouds, technology sessions, or library stations/makerspaces. I hope my lessons and stories I read aloud will inspire a love for reading and learning in your child!

Look around this site to learn more about our library. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

Enjoy learning and reading!
Mrs. Watson

2018-19 Battle of the Books Official List Released!

Summer has just begun, and I already have next year's books for our 2019 Battle of the Books Tournament! We had over 100 students interested this past school year, but little time to read the 30 books. This time, our incoming 3rd and 4th graders have plenty of time! Details will be posted soon, but if your child is interested, they can start this summer on reading many of the books.

Decker Prairie's Book Tournament

School Tournament this Friday, February 23rd

This Friday, our participating 3rd and 4th graders will come during their recess and compete in our school’s Tomball Book Tournament. I will send 3rd and 4th grade teachers a list of who is competing. The school's competition will not be in front of the entire school, but be a written competition since we have so many competing (72 students). A note went home today with more specifics. I will announce the winning teams during our Call to Excellence next Monday. We are so proud of the students who are participating!

Animal Facts from The One and Only Ivan- Elephant Fact #1

Book Tournament Practice on Fridays

February 2nd begins my weekly Book Tournament practice and coaching sessions. If you child would like to attend, I will begin at 8:10 am. Your child does not have to be there at exactly 8:10 am, they can stop by after eating breakfast and/or arriving to school. I will check on each team's progress, have a practice round of questions, and give tips to help all teams prepare for our upcoming school tournament.

Book Tournament Meeting Tomorrow: January 26th

Tomorrow morning at 8:10 am in the library, I will have a meeting for 3rd & 4th graders participating in the Tomball Book Tournament. This is only for boys and girls who have turned in their permission slips before the Christmas break. We had over 140 interested students, but after Christmas break, we now have around 75 interested. The purpose of this meeting is to have students fill out a survey on how many books they have read out of the 31 on the list, to discuss how to work with their teams, and to reorganize many of the teams. Parents are welcome to attend, but do not need to since the focus is mainly getting the students back on track for the upcoming competition next month. Feel free to email me with any questions. I am excited for how many students we have that are interested!
