 DPES Chess Club

10/17/2017

Dear Parents,

We are noticing that there are parents are remaining in the drop off area after dropping off their child for Chess Club and UIL coaching sessions.  Because of this, other parents behind them are not able to drop off their child.

Parents should drop off and continue on out of the circle once their child has made their way up the sidewalk.  There shouldn't be any need to park and walk your child up now that it is well into the school year and they know how to behave will waiting.

Be sure to sign up for the REMIND texts so you can be notified of any changes in Mrs. French's schedule.  Text @dpesch to 81010.

Chess Club is available to any 1st-4th grader. We have 36 spaces available. If your student does not get in, he/she will be placed on a Waiting List. Students need to have a signed permission slip to participate (English and Spanish Applications are below.)

Applications are due on 9/28. Your student will receive notification of their status before October 3.

Mrs. French will be at the front porch every Tuesday morning at 7:45 am to pick up Chess Club Members (except Book Fair weeks).  If your student arrives after 7:45 am, they will not be allowed to enter the school. They will remain on the porch until the bell rings. There is no school supervision until 8:10 am.

To make Chess Club fun and enjoyable for everyone, students are expected to follow ALL Chess Club rules.

  • Come to Chess Club regularly and be on time (7:45 am) Plan extra time for traffic!
  • Be an eager learner and a gracious competitor. You will win some and you will lose some. You are learning.
  • Keep up your grades, get good conduct marks and be at school every day.
  • Treat others with respect.
  • Take care with the Chess sets.
  • Leave the library ready for the Librarian.

Please email Mrs. French at angeleenfrench@tomballisd.net or call the school at 281-357-3134 ext. 3077 with any concerns about your student's attendance.

Here are some great Online Resources for Chess for your student to explore Chess at home.

Parents of Chess Club members are strongly encouraged to sign up for the REMIND app to receive text messages regarding schedule changes. Text @dpesch to 81010
