I am extremely excited about a new school year! I am ready to meet all my incoming families, students, and ready to build lasting relationships. This is going to be an amazing year! Remember, open communication is KEY! Parents and I are partners in the education of their children. When we work together as a team, we can accomplish so much!

Tomorrow, students may dress up in their Western Wear to celebrate Go Texan Day! We ask that students not wear spurs, no weapons, no props, and no lassos. We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!!

 Reading: how text features help us become better readers of non-fiction.

Writing: how to prepare for writing our own non-fiction books
Math: how to count to 100 by 1's and 10's
Science: Objects in the sky during the day and night.
Social Studies: about American Culture.

This week, we are learning ... 
Reading -
about text features in non-fiction books and  how they help us understand the topic of the text. These include title, photographs, table of contents, caption, and label.

Writing -
how to incorporate text features into our all about books.
 
Math -
counting backwards from 20 to 1 and read,  represent, and write numbers 0 - 20.

about observing and describing objects in the sky and identifying that there are repeating patterns in the day and night.

Social Studies -patriotic holidays and why do we celebrate them & remembering important people and events that impacted our country and the importance of these holidays

 

Dear Parents,

 

This year for Valentines Day we will be creating bags for their Valentine exchange in the classroom. If you do choose to send Valentine cards or treats, please make sure there is one for every child in the class (no peanuts). For your convenience, we will be sending a class list of names home in Wednesday folders next week.

Reading - 
*Readers learn that the table of contents is another text feature used by the author to give us an idea of what we will be learning about. Compare to a fiction that doesn’t have a table of contents. Students practice locating the table of contents in their book.
*Readers will learn how to use a table of contents with page numbers to find headings. Students practice using the table of contents to locate headings.
*Readers learn how the headings give us an idea about the facts.
*Readers learn how the headings give us an idea about the facts. Students will work with a partner to use the table of contents to locate the headings and facts.

Writing: I can tell 5 things about my topic using my five fingers. I can stay focused on my topic like other authors do when writing.

Welcome back to school in the New Year!! This week we are really spending time on team  building and cooperation activities, as well as, expectations within the classroom and the school building. I believe these activities will assist in creating a family environment and help get us all back into the routine of school with ease. I am excited about this new year!
