Hi! My name is Jessica Kirk and I am SO excited to be your child's teacher this year! I graduated from Sam Houston State University where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies.  This will be my sixth year teaching and third year at Decker Prairie. I truly love what I do and I can't wait to get this school year started! I am looking forward to a wonderful year with you and your child. :)

What are we learning:

Science:I will be able to identify sources of water.

Reading-We will read an informational text and state the main idea and give supporting details. 

Writing-We will write an informational books using facts.

Math-We can add and subtract up to 20.

Social Studies- We will discuss and create a map.

Science-We identify different types of soil. (clay, sand, soil)

January 21-24th

What are we learning:

Reading-We will read persuasive texts.

Writing-We will write in order to persuade others.

Math-We will represent numbers to 120 using standard and expanded form as well as compare numbers.

Social Studies-We will discuss Texas symbols.

Science-We will observe and record objects/changes in the sky

Call to Excellence

*On Friday, January 17th we will start at 8:30 am. We start earlier on Friday mornings. If your child rides the bus, this is out of your control when they arrive. If they are car riders in the morning, please try your best to have them here by 8:20. This will give me time to line them up and give them their parts. If a child is not here on time, they will miss this opportunity! Let me know if you have any questions and thanks for all you do! I really appreciate you all! :) I know the kids are SO excited!
 
*Please have your child practice their part at home. We have been practicing at school and they have pretty much already nailed it in just the two days we have been practicing. :)

Call to Excellence

Dear parents,
 
Our class is leading the Call to Excellence Friday, December 6th. We are so excited!! This is when we meet on Friday's in the cafeteria to do morning announcements as part of Great Expectations. I have given your child a part to
practice. (This should have been in their go home folder today) These parts will be coming home in their daily folders. I would really appreciate if you would have them practice by reading their parts to you at home. We will also be

What we are learning:

Reading-We will discuss theme and compare/contrast theme in the stories we read and strategies to help us become strong readers.

Writing-We will write a personal narrative. We will follow the writing process draft, edit/revise, publish, share.

Math-We will solve addition/subtraction story problems up to 10.

Social Studies- We will explore the importance of celebrating Thanksgiving Day as part of our traditions in our families and in the community.

Science- We will explore the uses of magnets.

November 11-15th

Important Dates:

11/11 Monday:  Food Drive begins
Suggested food items: canned groceries (meats, soups, beans, fruits, veggies), peanut butter, rice, stuffing mixes, powdered milk, packaged pasta, instant potatoes, canned juices, etc.
11/12 Tuesday: Papa John's Spirit Night
11/13 Wednesday: Library Day: Please return borrowed books.
11/14  Thursday: Donuts with Grownups 7:15- 8:00 am
11/20  Friday: Food Drive ends

Social Studies-We will discuss public officials and voting.
